Meta, Palantir Face Criticism Over Trump Alignment and Customer Lock-In; UK Parliament Demands 2027 Contract End

According to The Rest is Money podcast and The Guardian, Nick Clegg, former Meta president of global affairs and communications, recently criticized Silicon Valley tech giants including Meta for aligning with President Trump's political stance, asserting such moves are driven by "self-interest" rather than principle. Clegg, who left Meta in March 2026 after nearly seven years, stated that product services have shifted from "human-centric models to content-driven approaches, including AI-generated content." Clegg also raised concerns about Palantir, questioning whether the U.S. software company is creating excessive customer dependency to become "irreplaceable." The UK Parliament's Science, Innovation and Technology Committee issued a report last week naming Palantir as "the most concerning case of public sector over-reliance on large tech suppliers," urging the government to terminate the contract when exit clauses take effect in 2027. Palantir UK CEO Louis Mosley countered on BBC that two government departments have already stopped using their services with successful data migration to alternative providers.
