According to Fox News, authorities on May 23 identified Nasil Best, a 21-year-old from Maryland, as the suspect who fired at Secret Service personnel near the White House. Best has prior contacts with local police and the Secret Service, and is suspected of having a mental health condition.

Best was detained by the Secret Service twice in 2025: on June 26 for stopping agents and making threats, and on July 10 for entering a restricted area, according to U.S. media reports.
