Gate Spot Index Feature Update: Index Component Weights Now Auto-Adjust During Traditional Financial Market Closures

Traditional financial assets (such as Gold and Crude Oil) operate within fixed trading sessions. During market closures, constituent data feeds sourced from traditional exchanges cease publishing price quotes. If an unexpected market event or a shift in price expectations occurs during these off-market hours, the overall Index Price remains frozen due to the halted constituent feeds. Meanwhile, the platform's perpetual contract price will continue to fluctuate based on user trading activity. This disparity creates an abnormal basis spread between the contract price and the Index Price.
This spread leads to two direct consequences: first, the Index fails to accurately capture current market sentiment, resulting in price distortion; second, the funding rate escalates as the premium/discount gap expands, imposing unnecessary funding fee costs on positioned users.
To resolve these issues, Gate will launch an automatic weight-adjustment mechanism on June 4, 2026. Under this new mechanism, when the market closes, the system will automatically reduce the weight of halted constituent feeds to 0%. Active, continuously updating feeds will dynamically absorb the remaining weight to maintain index calculations. Once regular trading hours resume and the halted feeds recover, weights will automatically revert to their baseline distribution. This ensures that the Index continuously reflects real market value at any given hour while minimizing the erosion of users' account equity caused by skewed funding rates.

Adjustment Breakdown

Trading Session Old Mechanism New Mechanism
Market Open Fixed weights across all index constituents No change (Identical to the old mechanism)
Market Close Fixed weights maintained (even if certain constituent feeds have stopped quoting) Halted constituent weights automatically drop to 0%; active constituent weights are proportionally scaled up

Applicable Contract Markets

Initially, this mechanism will cover the following 8 perpetual contract markets, with further expansions planned depending on market conditions:
Metals: XAU_USDT (Gold), XAG_USDT (Silver), XPT_USDT (Platinum), XPD_USDT (Palladium), XCU_USDT (Copper)
Energy: CL_USDT (WTI Crude Oil), BZ_USDT (Brent Crude Oil), NG_USDT (Natural Gas)

Example Illustration

Assume the XAU_USDT index comprises 4 constituents—BinanceFutures, GateFutures, Hyperliquid, and Infoway—each originally allocated a 25% baseline weight.

Market Close Entry: June 5, 2026, 17:00 EDT (June 5, 2026, 21:00 UTC)

Infoway stops quoting. Its weight automatically drops to 0%, and the weights of the 3 remaining active constituents scale up proportionally:

Component Source Weight
GateFutures 33.34%
BinanceFutures 33.33%
Hyperliquid 33.33%
Infoway 0.00%

Market Open Entry: June 7, 2026, 18:00 EDT (June 7, 2026, 22:00 UTC)

Infoway resumes continuous price quotes. The weights of the 4 constituents automatically rebalance to standard levels:

Component Source Weight
BinanceFutures 25.00%
GateFutures 25.00%
Hyperliquid 25.00%
Infoway 25.00%
