According to Echo Protocol, on May 19, the team discovered unauthorized eBTC activity on Monad caused by a leaked admin key, resulting in unauthorized minting and approximately $816K in funds affected. The Monad network itself continues operating normally. The team has successfully regained control of the admin key and burned the remaining 955 eBTC held by attackers.
As a preventive measure, Echo has suspended Monad’s cross-chain functionality and upgraded contracts. The incident is limited to Monad; no impact detected on Aptos, where aBTC and Monad’s eBTC are independent, non-bridgeable assets.
