According to the IEA's 2026 Global Energy Investment Report released on May 28, global natural gas project investment is projected to grow over 10% this year to $330 billion, marking a 10-year high. Meanwhile, upstream oil investment will decline for the third consecutive year. The energy sector is accelerating investments across alternative regions and increasing spending on renewables, liquefied natural gas, and coal to strengthen supply security amid Middle East tensions. Overall global energy sector capital investment is expected to rise 5% in 2026 to $3.4 trillion, with $2.2 trillion directed toward renewables, energy storage, grids, and low-emission fuels.
