SEC Chairman Atkins Announces Modernized Digital Asset Regulation, 'Project Crypto' Initiative

According to ChainCatcher, SEC Chairman Paul Atkins announced at Reagan National Economic Forum that the SEC is modernizing digital asset oversight, launching 'Project Crypto' with the CFTC, and clarifying which digital assets constitute securities. Atkins stated the SEC will establish exemptive relief mechanisms for tokenized listed securities and ensure on-chain trading systems comply with existing regulatory frameworks, reversing prior regulatory hostility that drove crypto innovation overseas.

The SEC also plans to reduce disclosure burdens and enhance IPO flexibility as part of its broader reform agenda. Atkins emphasized that regulators should provide clear rules and legal certainty to support market innovation rather than suppress technological development.
