Senator Warren Questions OCC's Approval of 9 Crypto Trust Charters, Citing National Bank Act Violation

According to Bloomberg, Senator Elizabeth Warren questioned the U.S. currency regulator's approval of national trust charters for cryptocurrency companies. In a letter to the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC) head Jonathan Gould, Warren stated the agency has approved at least 9 national trust charters to crypto firms that "appear to lack required qualifications" and "seem to far exceed the narrow scope of activities permitted by law," potentially constituting a "clear violation of the National Bank Act." She called for clarification on whether the OCC followed applicable legal requirements during the approval process.
