Elon Musk's companies SpaceX and Tesla collectively hold 30,221 Bitcoin valued at approximately $2.27 billion, according to recent SEC filings. SpaceX disclosed its Bitcoin position last week when filing for an initial public offering, revealing holdings of 18,712 BTC worth more than $1.4 billion. Tesla holds 11,509 BTC valued at around $862 million according to its most recent 10-Q filing. A CNBC report suggests Musk aims to combine the two firms, citing people familiar with discussions who stated "the two companies already have a laundry list of shared resources, and Musk has discussed with colleagues the possibility of folding the companies together." If merged, the combined entity would rank #5 among publicly traded Bitcoin treasuries based on current holdings.

SpaceX Bitcoin Holdings and IPO Filing

SpaceX acquired its 18,712 BTC for $661 million and has held its current allotment since at least 2024, according to its SEC filing submitted last week. The Starbase, Texas-based firm reportedly moved funds on-chain for the first time in three years last July, according to on-chain labeling data from Arkham Intelligence. SpaceX moved approximately $94 million worth of BTC in December, though data gathered at that time indicated the firm held less than 9,000 BTC in total—less than half of what its SEC filing revealed. The company is seeking a valuation of around $1.75 trillion for its IPO.

Tesla's Bitcoin Position

Tesla's 11,509 BTC holdings are valued at approximately $862 million according to its most recent 10-Q filing. The combined Bitcoin position of both companies would place the merged entity inside the top five publicly traded Bitcoin treasuries.

Musk's Personal Bitcoin Holdings

Musk disclosed in 2020 that despite his wealth, he personally owned around 0.25 BTC, now valued at nearly $19,000. Musk previously identified himself as a supporter of Bitcoin. He has a more vocal history with Dogecoin (DOGE), the Shiba Inu-based meme coin that ranks as the 10th largest crypto asset by market cap.

Current Bitcoin Market Status

Bitcoin is down around 1.3% in the last 24 hours, recently changing hands at $75,021. It currently sits more than 40% off its all-time high of $126,080 set last October.
