Tencent announced on May 15 in New Delhi that it has partnered with India’s Services Export Promotion Council (SEPC) and the Game Developer Association of India (GDAI) to expand game publishing and developer training in the country, according to The Economic Times.
The three-year deal with GDAI, which has 15 state chapters, includes a student game jam and trainer development program. The partnership also provides support for at least 10 studios and participation in the India Game Developer Conference.
SEPC is a trade body operating under India’s commerce ministry.
According to the announcement, the partnership is designed to help Indian studios reach overseas markets through Tencent’s distribution network.
The move comes as India projects demand for 2 million AVGC (Animation, Visual Effects, Gaming, and Comics) workers by 2030. The Union Budget has backed a new Indian Institute of Creative Technologies lab network to support this sector’s growth.
