TikTok Removes 780,000 Underage Accounts in Indonesia to Comply with Child Protection Rules

GateNews

Gate News message, April 15 — TikTok has disabled approximately 780,000 accounts held by users under 16 in Indonesia, according to the country’s communications ministry. The action complies with child protection requirements under Government Regulation No. 17/2025, which mandates platforms to enforce safety measures for minors. TikTok was the first platform to report compliance and submitted a formal commitment letter.

Roblox and YouTube failed to meet Indonesia’s standards despite making changes. Roblox introduced new global account types but was rejected because child users could still chat with strangers. YouTube received a formal warning for using vague age limit wording. The ministry urged other platforms to disclose their actions on child accounts.
