Apple Plans Price Hikes to Offset Memory and Storage Chip Costs, Says Cook

According to Apple CEO Tim Cook in a Wall Street Journal interview on June 17, the company plans to raise product prices to absorb surging memory and storage chip costs. Cook stated, "Unfortunately, price increases are unavoidable. We've been working hard to absorb significant costs from suppliers while protecting consumers, but the situation has become untenable." AI demand has consumed vast quantities of chips, inflating costs across consumer electronics. Research firm TechInsights estimates next-generation iPhone Pro models could see price increases of approximately $270 if Apple maintains profit margins. Cook noted the company faces severe DRAM and NAND storage constraints as chipmakers allocate capacity to AI server high-bandwidth memory (HBM). Apple, which spends over $10 billion annually on memory and storage, is exploring financial measures to boost supply but ruled out building in-house chip factories.
