Binance Founder CZ Proposes Freezing 1M Dormant Bitcoin to Prevent Quantum Attacks

BTC-3.27%
According to an interview with Galaxy Research head Alex Thorn, Binance founder Changpeng Zhao recently proposed that Bitcoin's network freeze dormant quantum-vulnerable coins if owners fail to migrate them after a future quantum-resistant protocol upgrade. Zhao suggested offering a migration window of six to 12 months, with addresses remaining unchanged after the deadline becoming unspendable through a protocol fork. The proposal would primarily affect Satoshi Nakamoto-linked wallets, estimated to hold approximately 1 million to 1.1 million BTC worth roughly $65 billion. Zhao clarified that the decision should be made collectively by Bitcoin users, miners, and developers if quantum computing becomes capable of deriving private keys from exposed public keys.
