Canada Unveils First National Nuclear Energy Strategy, Plans 10 New Reactors in 15 Years

Canada unveiled its first national nuclear energy strategy on June 22, according to state media. Energy Minister Tim Hodgson announced the plan will be anchored by four pillars: building new nuclear projects across the country, positioning Canada as a global nuclear supplier and export leader, expanding uranium production and fuel opportunities while developing long-term waste management, and advancing nuclear innovation. The government plans to construct 10 new nuclear reactors over the next 15 years and double uranium exports while increasing exports of Canadian-made reactors to more nations.
