China's May Exports and Imports Both Surge; Exports Up 19.4%, Imports Up 27.4% Year-over-Year

According to China's General Administration of Customs on June 9, China's total import and export value in May reached 648.13 billion U.S. dollars, up 22.6% year-over-year. Exports totaled 376.78 billion U.S. dollars, up 19.4%, while imports reached 271.35 billion U.S. dollars, up 27.4%. The trade surplus stood at 105.43 billion U.S. dollars. Industry analysts attributed the strong export growth to a combination of factors: low comparable base from the same period last year, the global AI industry boom, improved exports to the United States, and price increases.
