Chinese AI Models to Reach Fable-Level Performance by Q1 2027, Musk Says; Zhipu Stock Hits Record High

On June 18, Elon Musk responded to a social media question about when Chinese AI models would reach Fable-level performance, stating "Perhaps Q1 2027," while acknowledging that Zhipu's GLM-5.2 has narrowed the gap.

Zhipu launched GLM-5.2 on June 17, featuring 1 million token context window and enhanced coding capabilities. According to Zhipu, GLM-5.2 achieved top global performance on CodeArena, and the performance gap with Claude Opus 4.8 narrowed to 1%-4%. Zhipu's Hong Kong-listed stock (02513.HK) surged 26.15% by market close to 2,094 HKD, reaching an all-time high with a market cap exceeding 900 billion HKD. The company also advanced toward A-share listing, with its IPO guidance status updated to "verification completion" on June 17.
