Claude Authors Over 80% of Anthropic's Code, Shipping 8 Times More Than 2024, Company Says

According to Anthropic's report "When AI Builds Itself" published Thursday (June 4), Claude now authors more than 80% of the code merged into the company's codebase. The AI startup said engineers are shipping roughly eight times more code than they did in 2024, a shift accelerated since Claude Code launched in February 2025.

Anthropically argued that AI is already helping build future AI systems through code writing, experiments, and research assistance. The company noted that while recursive self-improvement remains speculative, if current trends continue, AI systems could eventually design and develop their own successors.
