The European Union will impose a €10,000 limit on cash payments for goods and services from 10 July 2027 under Regulation (EU) 2024/1624. The new anti-money laundering rules also require crypto-asset service providers to perform full customer due diligence for occasional transactions of €1,000 or more, while transactions below €1,000 require customer identification but not full verification.
Anonymous crypto accounts are explicitly banned. The regulation prohibits any accounts or services enabling anonymization or increased obfuscation of transactions, including privacy-focused coins. The rules effectively prevent regulated platforms from listing, custodying, or facilitating services involving privacy coins, though private use of such assets remains permitted.
