EU Proposes Fiscal Flexibility for Member States to Address Energy Costs, Allowing 0.3% GDP Exemption

According to Jin10, on June 2, the EU is considering a proposal to grant member states additional fiscal flexibility outside the bloc's established budget framework to address energy cost pressures stemming from the Iran situation. The proposal would allow governments to spend an amount equivalent to approximately 0.3% of their GDP on energy-related expenses. This exemption mechanism would operate similarly to the defense spending exemptions previously granted to member states.
