Federal Judge Halts Trump Administration's Election Order on Voter ID Requirements on June 24

According to a federal court ruling on June 24, U.S. District Judge Dennis Casper permanently blocked the Trump administration from implementing most provisions of its first election executive order. The order required voters to provide proof of citizenship documents during voter registration and prevented mail-in ballots from being counted if they arrived after Election Day, even if postmarked before. Judge Casper ruled that under the U.S. Constitution, authority over election regulations belongs to individual states and Congress, not the president, therefore the president cannot unilaterally modify election rules through executive order.
