According to BlockBeats, on June 19, the U.S. Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) ordered the six major grid operators to expedite interconnection applications from data centers and other large power users. Grid operators must demonstrate that data centers can connect to the transmission system in a timely and orderly manner, with data centers bearing all interconnection costs. The decision passed unanimously.
FERC also directed grid operators to consider alternative transmission technologies such as solid-state transformers or superconducting lines. Operators must submit reports within 30 days on available generation reserve capacity and within 60 days defend or revise their regional electricity pricing systems. Additionally, FERC instructed operators to better support data centers in using behind-the-meter power sources.
