Germany's 49,858 BTC Sale Approaches Break-Even: Bitcoin Near $57,900 Average Price

According to Bitcoin.com News, Germany liquidated 49,858 BTC between June 19 and July 12, 2024, for approximately $2.89 billion at an average price of $57,900 per coin. The coins had been seized in connection with the operator of movie2k, a major piracy site, and were sold under German law requiring prompt liquidation of seized assets. Bitcoin is now trading less than $3,000 above Germany's average exit price, narrowing a gap that widened to billions of dollars when BTC peaked near $125,000 later in 2024, reviving debate over whether governments should hold seized bitcoin as strategic reserves rather than liquidate them.
