Google Sues Chinese Crime Group for Using Gemini AI in 2.5M Phishing Scams

According to court documents, Google filed a lawsuit on Friday (June 12) against Chinese cybercrime network Outsider Enterprise for using Gemini AI to automate mass phishing campaigns. The defendants allegedly used Gemini to generate code and templates for fake websites mimicking legitimate telecom portals, targeting hundreds of thousands of U.S. victims with messages designed to steal financial credentials.

The FBI estimates the operation sent 2.5 million scam messages and created 8,000 phishing websites across dozens of countries. The defendants allegedly stole 3.87 million credit card numbers and caused approximately $1.9 billion in losses since July 2023, according to court filings.
