According to Mizuho's latest research, Google TPU shipments are forecast to surge to 35 million units in 2028, up from 2.4 million in 2025 and 4.3 million in 2026. Cumulative shipments across 2026–2028 are projected to approach 50 million units.
The surge reflects growing demand for custom AI inference chips driven by lower unit costs and reduced reliance on general-purpose platforms. Broadcom, which designs custom silicon and networking solutions for Google's TPU architecture, is positioned to strengthen its market anchor. MediaTek is also expanding its role, handling cost-optimized inference chip design in TPU's later generations while capturing higher-value opportunities in silicon IP and advanced packaging.
