According to Reuters and industry research by Mystee, Indonesia’s nickel laterite hydroxide (MHP) production fell to 27,200 tons in April 2026, down 16.31% month-on-month and 13.07% year-on-year. The decline reflects reduced output from Indonesia’s pyrometallurgical processing lines to redirect power to aluminum smelters amid electricity constraints in industrial parks. China’s refined nickel production also contracted to 35,250 tons in April, declining 5.59% month-on-month and 3.29% year-on-year, according to data from Chaotic Tianyi Futures research report published on May 19. Further production declines are expected in May as supply-side pressures ease.
