According to Joseph Lubin, on June 20, the Ethereum co-founder and Consensys CEO proposed establishing well-funded, credibly neutral organizations to complement the Ethereum Foundation's work and focus on ecosystem growth across the main network, Layer 2 solutions, and private Ethereum deployments.
Lubin's remarks came amid debate over the foundation's 2025 "Lean Ethereum" framework, which positioned it as a neutral protocol steward rather than a commercial advocate. The shift has contributed to staff departures, including co-executive director Tomasz Stańczak and protocol lead Tim Beiko by May 2026, alongside concerns about core developer funding sustainability.
