KB Kookmin Bank Issues $100M Blockchain USD Bond via HSBC Orion

KB Kookmin Bank became South Korea's first financial institution to issue a blockchain-based U.S. dollar digital bond valued at $100 million with a two-year maturity. The bond was issued through HSBC's digital asset platform, HSBC Orion, with settlement and clearing services connected to the Central Moneymarkets Unit (CMU) under the Hong Kong Monetary Authority. By utilizing blockchain infrastructure, the issuance enables near real-time settlement compared to the conventional T+2 or T+3 framework, while reducing operational complexity and counterparty risks.
