According to reports, New York State Supreme Court received a lawsuit in March seeking to establish ownership of over 3.7 million Bitcoin across 39,069 dormant addresses, valued at approximately $274 billion. The plaintiffs, including an individual identified as Noah Doe and two unnamed Wyoming limited liability companies, filed the case under New York's Lost Property Law, arguing the dormant addresses constitute lost property they are entitled to claim.

The lawsuit specifically targets 21,744 addresses associated with Bitcoin founder Satoshi Nakamoto, holding approximately 1.09 million Bitcoin worth approximately $83.7 billion at current prices. The plaintiffs sent abandonment notices via OP_RETURN transactions to the addresses between June 30 and July 10, 2025.
