Russia's Admiral Grigorovich Frigate Fires on British Yacht Bright Future in English Channel on June 16

According to Russian Defence Ministry, the Admiral Grigorovich frigate fired warning shots at British yacht Bright Future in the English Channel near the Isle of Wight on June 16, 2026. The incident occurred around 11:40am local time, with the Russian warship claiming the civilian vessel was approaching dangerously under engine power despite radio warnings.

The Russian Defence Ministry stated in its official statement that the frigate's crew made repeated attempts to contact the yacht via international radio channels with no response. After the distance closed to 150 meters and despite flares and sound signals, the warship's commander fired small arms across the yacht's course. The Bright Future immediately altered course and moved away. Moscow said it acted in accordance with international shipping regulations to prevent collision.
