Threads announced on Tuesday (June 16) that its monthly active users have reached 500 million, with the platform launching upgraded Communities features to strengthen community engagement. The new offerings include a Communities Hub for easier navigation, unique community icons, and a Community Progress tracker showing growth toward official status.
As part of its localization push, Threads rolled out Local Communities in Japan, South Korea, and Taiwan as the first wave, enabling users to create and join community topics in their local languages. Additionally, the platform introduced Your Algo, allowing users to customize content recommendations by specifying topics they want to see more or less of, with settings lasting 1, 3, or 7 days.
