UN Food Agency Warns of Emerging El Niño Threatening Agricultural Regions Across Africa, Asia on June 22

According to the UN Food and Agriculture Organization, on June 22, the organization released a global agricultural risk map warning of an emerging El Niño phenomenon expected to form within weeks, posing severe threats to global agriculture. The Sahel region, southern Africa, South Asia, Southeast Asia, the Central American dry corridor, and the Caribbean were identified as the highest-risk zones, with over 50% probability of drought affecting some farmland and pastures in coming months. The assessment was based on 41 years of satellite imagery data.
