U.S. Secretary of State Says Negotiations with Iran Ongoing, Timeline for Deal Uncertain

According to Xinhua News Agency, on June 2, U.S. Secretary of State Rubio testified before the Senate Foreign Relations Committee that the United States remains in negotiations with Iran, but he is uncertain when an agreement may be reached. This marks Rubio's first congressional testimony since the U.S. and Israel launched major military operations against Iran in late February.

Rubio stated that Iran has agreed to discuss aspects of its nuclear program, noting that a year ago they were unwilling to engage in talks at all. He said an agreement could be reached today, tomorrow, or next week, but cautioned this does not guarantee a final agreement acceptable to Congress.
