US Seizes $1 Billion in Iran-Linked Crypto Assets, Doubling Late April Figure

According to US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, speaking at the Reagan National Economic Forum, US authorities have seized approximately $1 billion in Iran-linked cryptocurrency assets, double the $500 million figure disclosed in late April. Bessent stated that authorities had taken control of digital wallets linked to Iranian interests but did not provide technical details on the seizure methods. The operation is part of Operation Economic Fury, a financial pressure campaign targeting Tehran that began in March 2025, which also includes freezing bank accounts and confiscating property in coordination with European allies.
