President Trump threatened fresh military strikes against Iran late Sunday over Tehran's closure of the Strait of Hormuz, triggering a selloff in U.S. stock futures. Dow futures fell 0.12%, S&P 500 futures declined 0.21%, and Nasdaq 100 futures dropped 0.22% as of 9:24 p.m. ET. In a Truth Social post, Trump stated Iran must stop proxy activities in Lebanon "or we'll hit Iran very hard again, just like we did last week, only harder." The tensions emerged despite the first round of U.S.-Iran peace talks in Switzerland over the weekend, where Vice President J.D. Vance met Iranian officials to discuss strategies for preserving the ceasefire and keeping the Strait open. Oil prices rose amid the renewed standoff, with Brent crude futures trading around $80.25 per barrel and WTI crude futures climbing 1.20% to $77.52.
