Airbnb CEO Defends Use of Alibaba's Qwen AI Model, Denies User Data Sharing

According to Bloomberg, Airbnb CEO Brian Chesky said in response to a US House investigation that the company does not share user data with Chinese firms. In April, House committees on China and homeland security inquired about Airbnb's use of Alibaba's Qwen AI model. Chesky explained that open-source models do not access company data by default, and Airbnb uses several open-source models alongside proprietary options. The inquiry was prompted after Chesky told Bloomberg in October that Qwen was a lower-cost alternative for certain tasks.
