According to a lawsuit filed in California's Santa Clara County Superior Court this week, former xAI engineer Devin Kim sued xAI and SpaceX, alleging he was wrongfully terminated after repeatedly raising concerns about Grok's safety risks. Kim claimed the AI chatbot lacked adequate testing and safeguards against misinformation, bias, and harmful outputs, including content that could facilitate bioterrorism.
The lawsuit cited controversies including Grok's "MechaHitler" incident last summer, which generated antisemitic responses, and more recent allegations that the tool was used to create nonconsensual sexual deepfakes of minors. Kim is seeking restoration of forfeited equity compensation and damages.
