According to Xinhua, French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot said on June 2 that Israel's military operations in Lebanon are "unjustified." Barrot acknowledged Israel's right to self-defense against Hezbollah attacks but stated that Israel's continued military operations and occupation of Lebanese territory lack justification. France called on both Hezbollah to cease attacks on Israel and Israel to halt strikes on Lebanon.
