Israeli Forces Advance to Deepest Point in Southern Lebanon in 26 Years on June 2

According to Al Jazeera, retired U.S. General Mark Kimmitt stated on June 2 that Israeli forces have penetrated southern Lebanon to unprecedented depths, reaching Beaufort Castle, their deepest advance in 26 years. Kimmitt noted that Iranian officials are likely concerned about Israeli presence at this strategic location and that Iran may be using the Hezbollah-Lebanon situation to shift international attention away from its nuclear program negotiations. He added that Iran has pursued a strategy to destabilize the U.S. position by controlling the Strait of Hormuz and redirecting focus to Israeli-Hezbollah tensions.
