According to media reports citing sources, Google is considering procuring memory chips from Yangtze Memory, China's major chipmaker, for its next-generation Humufish TPU. The move is driven by rising memory chip costs and shortages in the current market. Google aims to produce 3.5 million units of these custom AI chips by end of 2028, creating substantial demand for memory semiconductors. Yangtze Memory is expanding capacity, expecting monthly wafer production to rise from approximately 200,000 to 300,000 units by end of 2026.
