JPMorgan Chase to Deploy Longer-Running Autonomous AI Agents Later This Year

According to Derek Waldron, JPMorgan Chase's chief analytics officer, the largest U.S. bank plans to deploy autonomous AI agents later this year that can work longer than existing versions. The move builds on JPMorgan's in-house AI development: its LLM Suite reached 200,000 users within eight months of its summer 2024 launch and has lifted gross sales in the private banking business by 20%. Unlike copilots focused on single tasks, agentic systems operate across multi-step workflows with greater autonomy, capable of writing code, controlling web browsers, and interacting with desktop software. Waldron noted that security concerns have slowed adoption at large companies, with long-running agents not yet ready for corporate deployment. "We will have those in 2026," he said.
