OpenAI Announces Robotics Division, Focusing on Collaborative Robots for Technical Workers

According to OpenAI CEO Sam Altman on June 1, the company announced the establishment of OpenAI Robotics, a new division dedicated to developing robots that can operate in the physical world. The initiative is recruiting full-stack hardware, operations, systems, and machine learning engineers.

In the short term, OpenAI will focus on building robots to assist technical workers in constructing critical infrastructure. Long-term, the company envisions providing every individual with a personal robot capable of performing diverse tasks. The robotics division is led by Aditya Ramesh, a senior OpenAI researcher and principal architect of the DALL-E series and Sora video generation model.
