SpaceX Plans 1GW Space Compute Deployment by End of 2027, Nokia Emerges as Key Infrastructure Partner

SpaceX plans to deploy 1 gigawatt of space compute capacity by the end of 2027, a scale equivalent to a large nuclear power plant's output, dedicated entirely to space data center operations. This initiative is reshaping a new industrial chain spanning satellites, chips, base stations, and fiber optics.

The infrastructure ecosystem involves SpaceX building and operating the space data centers, Nvidia providing GPU compute and CUDA ecosystem, Nokia constructing ground-based base stations for data relay, and Corning expanding fiber production for ground network infrastructure. Among these players, Nokia holds a unique position as the only base station vendor with deep CUDA integration across its architecture—from hardware to applications—setting it apart from competitors Ericsson and Huawei. Nvidia recently partnered with Corning to launch fiber expansion initiatives aligned with the same 2027 timeline, laying groundwork for large-scale space compute deployment.
