According to The Block, on June 2, Telegram CEO Pavel Durov announced that The Open Network's native cryptocurrency has been rebranded to Gram, returning to the original whitepaper name as part of the initiative to revitalize the network. TON remains the blockchain name while Gram becomes the native token. The transition will take approximately three weeks. The move marks the fourth step of Durov's MTONGA plan, following network upgrades and a reduction in transaction fees. Telegram will also replace the TON Foundation as the ecosystem's primary manager and largest validator.

A one-sentence summary: Telegram is the initiator, TON is the underlying public chain, Gram (formerly Toncoin) is the native on-chain token, and MTONGA is the overall plan led by Telegram for TON's upgrade after its return. MTONGA = TON version of MAGA, a slogan-driven narrative, serving as both the official upgrade plan and a community hype term.
