According to the Daily Telegraph on May 17, Trump administration officials are encouraging the United Arab Emirates to take control of Lavan Island, a strategic Iranian position in the Gulf. A former Trump administration senior security official revealed that some in Trump’s circle suggested the UAE assume control of the island, which reportedly faced a secret UAE military airstrike in early April. “Go and take them,” the official said, “so it’s UAE ground forces in action, not American.”
