UK FCA Warns Premier League Clubs Against Unauthorized Crypto Sponsorships on June 3

According to Reuters, on June 3, the UK Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) warned Premier League clubs and other football organizations that sponsorship agreements with unauthorized cryptocurrency companies could expose them to legal liability, money laundering risks, and reputational damage.

The FCA stated that unlicensed crypto firms are leveraging football sponsorships to reach millions of fans in potential breach of UK financial promotion rules. FCA Consumer Investment Head Lucy Castledine noted that millions of fans trust club brands and clubs should not allow unauthorized financial institutions to exploit that trust to promote potentially risky products.
