According to Anthropic, on June 12 the U.S. government issued an urgent export control directive, requiring the AI company to immediately suspend global access to its latest models Claude Fable 5 and Mythos 5 for all foreign nationals, including non-U.S. employees. The shutdown came after reports of a potential jailbreak method affecting the Mythos model.
Anthropric disputed the decision, stating it was based on a "serious misunderstanding." The company argued that the reported jailbreak was "narrow and non-universal"—merely a request for the model to read and fix code in a specific repository—not a comprehensive safety bypass. Anthropric warned that applying such strict standards industry-wide would halt all frontier AI model deployments. The company said it is working with U.S. officials to clarify the misunderstanding and restore access.
