U.S. Suspends Foreign Access to Anthropic's Fable 5 and Mythos 5 Models Over Security Concerns

According to Anthropic's statement on Friday, the U.S. government issued an export control order requiring the immediate suspension of all foreign access to the Fable 5 and Mythos 5 AI models. Anthropic received the directive at 5:21 p.m. local time and temporarily halted services for all users, including those within the U.S., as well as foreign-national employees.

The government cited national security concerns, stating it had identified a potential jailbreak method to bypass Fable 5's safeguards. However, Anthropic disagreed with the suspension, saying the company does not support removing a commercially deployed model serving hundreds of millions of users based on a limited vulnerability.
