Zcash Orchard Pool Critical Forgery Vulnerability Discovered May 29, Fixed by June 2

ZEC-29.79%
According to Zcash founder Zooko, security researcher Taylor Hornby discovered a critical forgery vulnerability in Zcash Orchard pool on May 29. The Zcash Open Development Lab (ZODL) coordinated an emergency response, completing the fix on June 2. Shielded Labs confirmed the vulnerability was real and exploitable, capable of generating infinite undetectable forged ZEC in test environments. Due to Orchard's privacy properties, cryptographic proof of exploitation prior to the fix is not possible, though Shielded Labs assessed the likelihood of prior exploitation as low. Shielded Labs is exploring a network upgrade proposal to deploy a new shielded pool with turnstile accounting, enabling verification of Zcash supply integrity.
