China International Capital Advisory: Capacitors Shift to System-Level AI Power Demands as 800V Upgrades Drive Revaluation

According to Guru Club on June 22, China International Capital Advisory released a research report identifying capacitors as energy buffers in AI computing systems, similar to how HBM (High Bandwidth Memory) serves as a data buffer. The report highlights a fundamental shift in demand drivers: capacity requirements are expanding beyond power supply units (PSUs) into multi-stage power conversion and distribution stages—the "gray zone" previously overlooked by the market. As AI server power scales toward megawatt levels and infrastructure upgrades to 800V high-voltage direct current systems, demand elasticity has decoupled from linear GPU-count extrapolation. On the supply side, material bottlenecks (aluminum foil, activated carbon), environmental constraints, and conservative 10%-20% expansion by overseas manufacturers create opportunities for domestic capacitor makers with high upstream material self-sufficiency to capture global market share and pricing power.
