SK Group Plans AI Factory in Japan for 2028-2029

According to The Korea Times, SK Group Chairman Chey Tae-won said in an interview published Thursday that the South Korean conglomerate plans to build an AI factory in Japan between 2028 and 2029. Chey cited Japan's strong semiconductor ecosystem as the primary reason, noting the country hosts 88% of the global coater-developer market and 53% of silicon wafers. SK hynix, the group's memory chip unit, will decide the specific location and scale after evaluating power, water, land, and talent availability.
