TRM Labs Identifies $1,562 World Cup Crypto Scam on Polygon, Warns of Early-Stage Fraud

According to TRM Labs, the firm identified four addresses connected to three live World Cup-related crypto scam operations on June 11, with total receipts under $1,700 so far. One Polygon ticket scam address received $1,562, mostly on April 1, 2026. TRM flagged three types of schemes targeting football fans: phishing-style fake ticketing portals redirecting payments to scammer-controlled addresses, fixed-match betting schemes promising insider information for upfront crypto, and speculative tokens like $WORLDCUP lacking official FIFA affiliation. The firm noted scammers continue using cross-chain swaps and custodial exchange accounts to obscure fund flows. While current amounts are small, TRM framed the activity as early-stage infrastructure testing rather than a full-scale campaign, noting that sports-related fraud typically accelerates as tournaments approach and search demand rises.
